Would like to grow and dry thyme in your garden
Thyme is an ancient aromatic plant that is widely used in cooking and is a favorite of many cooks. Thyme is also known as one of the medicinal plants. Thyme is a creeping and hardy plant, it covers the ground and sometimes grows along a wall and can be easily planted in containers and pots. The small flowers of thyme are pale pink or purple and attract bees with their fragrance. There are more than 300 species of this perennial hardy plant. Thyme can grow in almost any climate. Thyme can be planted using its seedlings as well as through its seeds. Thyme can be grown both indoors and outdoors, in the ground or in pots.
Choose a suitable place for planting thyme. Thyme can be planted in partial shade. If your soil is not well drained, you can add some compost, sand or organic matter to improve drainage. Sandy and loamy soils are suitable for planting thyme. The proper pH for thyme growth is 5.6 (slightly acidic) to 5.8 (slightly alkaline). Preferably, the pH should be between 5.6 and 7. If necessary, you can use lime to raise the pH.
Before planting thyme, add fertilizer to the soil. This can be done every year in the spring.
Thyme can grow in places where there is stone or even near the wall. You can also plant thyme in pots and keep it at home.
Planting thyme in pots
Plant thyme seeds or seedlings in the ground when the weather warms up. The ideal temperature for planting thyme is 21 degrees Celsius. You can plant thyme at home 6 to 10 weeks before the last cold and transfer it to the ground after the weather warms up. Consider the distance between seeds or seedlings of thyme 20 to 30 cm. You need to be careful and control the weeds. Eliminate weeds near young thyme plants by weeding or using mulch. Thyme needs moderate watering, so that it is regular. But too much watering can cause root rot.
Thyme requires little care, only after the first year of planting, thyme stems should be pruned slightly. This should be done after the last spring frost, when the thyme stems are not brittle and woody. Picking the tips of the stems will keep the plants thick. This should not be done a month before the first autumn frost, to make sure new growth does not occur in cold weather.
Thyme is a hardy plant and is rarely affected by pests and diseases, but some pests such as spider mites in dry climates can damage this plant. Root rot and fungal diseases should also be avoided in humid climates. Good soil drainage, adequate air circulation and generally planting in the appropriate conditions mentioned above, prevent disease.

Store and dry thyme:
